How retirees can reduce their risk of dementia

Get your mind and body moving and you'll benefit!

Alzheimer’s Australia Chief Executive Carol Bennett is concerned that according to a paper recently released by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW), more than half of the Australian population is inactive, which can increase their risk of developing dementia.

Kensington Gardens residents in our Over 50s Albury and Shepparton retirement villages enjoy regular use of our gym and indoor swimming pool facilities as well as a wide range of other indoor and outdoor activities with the catch cry of: “use it, don’t lose it!”

Ms Bennett said in a recent article published in DPS News, “Research has found that about 13% of Alzheimer’s disease cases worldwide are attributable to physical inactivity.”

“Strategies suggested in the Your Brain Matters program, such as maximising your brain health and managing your blood sugar, cholesterol levels and blood pressure, have been proven to reduce the risk of developing some of the world’s most devastating chronic diseases, including dementia.”
